Lindsay Mathers

Hi! My name is Lindsay Aura Mathers and I have been dancing since before I could walk. I started taking classes at age three. I am seventeen now and I recently joined the Fascinating Rhythm dance family. Dance has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember and I can’t imagine myself ever wanting to stop doing it. I dance because it relieves any stress I may have and let’s me express my emotions through movements that I don’t think any other artist can portray.

Kia (Tap and Character): Lindsay is a very talented dancer with a great attitude that will open doors for her endeavors in dance – and more. She is hard-working, focused, friendly, and follows direction with a smile. I am excited for the next chapter in her life at Chapman University, although I do wish Fascinating Rhythm could enjoy her bubbly personality and many talents for a little longer! I am confident in her and her success in life. Congratulations, Miss Lindsay!

Ava (Jazz): It has been a pleasure working with Lindsay in my jazz classes. She has a positive attitude, clean lines, is focused and is the kind of dancer any choreographer would be happy to work with. I am sure she will be successful in her college endeavors.

Andrea (Modern): Lindsay has been a wonderful presence in the modern class this season. She exudes a mature, regal, and delightful state that shows through in her dancing. She will go far in whatever she pursues in life!

Marty (Jazz): The most important factor to being a successful dancer is attitude. Lindsay always comes to class with a positive attitude and willing to work hard. She has a true heart that shines through her dance. I know this young lady will be successful in any endeavor she pursues!!

Mig (Quadruple Threat): Lindsay is the ultimate Quadruple Threat. She can sing, dance, act, do acro, and more. Look out for her in auditions – she really is a threat (in a good way)!

Jamie (Ballet/Pointe): Lindsay is a delightful student who is always focused in class and/or rehearsal. I often see Lindsay lending an ear between or after classes with other students giving support and kindness. She has improved immensely and is a beautiful and inspiring dancer.

Jake (Aerial Silks): Lindsay is great to work with on the silks. She is knowledgeable and talented.

Dancer of the Month

Zora Marie Bubala

Zora is a six-year-old first grader at Mountain View Montessori School who wants to be an attorney when she grows up. She moved to Reno when she was one month old and lives in East Washoe Valley with her mom, Jill, a stay-at-home mom; her dad, Lou, an attorney; her brother, Louis, a sixth-grader at Depoali; and her sister, Maylyn, a preschooler at MVM.

Zora started dancing at Fascinating Rhythm when she was four-years-old. Miss Kia was her first dance teacher. She spent two years in Happy Feet and now takes Beginning Tap and Beginning Jazz with Miss Rachel. Zora says her favorite thing about dance is the music and learning new moves. She loves both of her classes so much she can’t decide which one she likes the most. One of her goals in dance is to be one of the Spirit of the Season Tapping Santas when she is older. Zora loves that her teacher, Miss Rachel, spends time with each student in class. “She comes around and shows each of us how to do our move and makes sure we are doing it right. She takes time with every person,” Zora says. She also loves how Miss Rachel is always so positive and upbeat in class!

When she is not dancing, Zora enjoys spending time with her family. One of her favorite things to do with them is go swimming at the Carson Valley Pool or at Sand Harbor on Lake Tahoe. She also enjoys camping with her family. One of her favorite places to camp is the Black Rock Desert or “anywhere else where there are trees and water.” Zora said she also like “going places” with her family. Her favorite place to go is Tybee Island off Savannah, Georgia. She has visited the island twice in the past two years and loves the beach, the trees, and the food! Zora also likes visiting her grandmas in Indiana and her grandpa in Florida or Tennessee. This summer Zora is going to Indiana with her ‘Mimi’ for a visit, without her parents or siblings! She is SO excited!

The past couple of years Zora has been learning how to cook and garden with her mom. This week she planted 15 strawberry plants in a Topsy Turvey Strawberry Planter. She is also going to have her own garden space this year and hopes to have tomatoes and pumpkins. Zora’s other favorite activities are playing soccer and skiing, which she learned to do last year at Sky Tavern. She says that she’s already better than her dad, who learned last year, also! Her favorite toys are Legos and dolls and she spends a lot of time doing crafts and sewing. In school this year, she has been learning how to knit and at home she has been learning how to play the viola. She is currently begging for a piano, too, so she can take lessons in the fall.

Zora is sometimes called the “Cat Whisperer” because she has a knack for finding stray cats and befriending them, even when they don’t like anyone else! They love her! She currently has one cat, Kit Kat, who showed up at the door last winter with no place else to go. Zora fed and loved the cat and she was soon living in the garage, but quickly moved into the house! Zora also has a male Beta fish and shares a flock of chickens with her brother and sister. She loves the chickens because, “They can go broody and sit on their eggs sometimes and then the eggs hatch and we have baby chicks. It’s so great that we get to see this. And I love the eggs!” Zora really wants a canary, parakeet, or finch, but she hasn’t been able to convince her mom and dad to get her one yet!

Zora is really honored to be the Student of the Month for May and can’t wait for the end of the year recital. And for summer to begin!

Miss Rachel (Tap and Jazz): Zora is an outstanding dance student that is in my tap class. She works hard and takes corrections very well. Sometimes the younger dancers have a hard time when you give them corrections because they do not realize that you’re trying to help them become a better dancer, not Zora she takes them like a champ.  :))  I can also give her challenging tap combination's and know she will work hard to get them but not get frustrated if she doesn't get them right away. This is a wonderful skill she has the will help her for the rest of her life whether it be a job interview or tryouts for a high school team. It is a joy to have Zora in my Thursday Tap class each week.  :))

Miss Kia (former teacher - Happy Feet): Zora is a charming young dancer that takes her classes seriously! She is very earnest and determined about her lessons. She is one of those dancers that makes a great leader when it comes to choreography; she always knows where to go and what to do! Congratulations!

CARLEE BERTERO

My name is Carlee Bertero and I am 12 years old. I have 2 siblings, and 2 very supportive parents. I love to go to Lake Tahoe with my family each summer. I have no pets. I go to Billinghurst Middle School and I am in 7th grade. My best subject is English. My favorite colors are hot pink and turquoise blue. I have been dancing for ten years. I take ballet, modern, glee, and jazz. The thing I like best about dancing is expressing my emotions and making myself happy!! I also love to do musical theater I am performing the musical Seussical in May. When I grow up I want to be a professional ballet dancer and dance in a company.

Miss Jamie (Ballet, Pointe): Carlee is a very soulful dancer in Ballet and that is an important part of being a successful dancer....combined with her "stick- to- itness" and a natural facility for dance, she has made recent tremendous strides in Ballet! She is also very kind and supportive of her fellow students and she is a great role model for our younger dancers here at Fascinating Rhythm. Congratulations Carlee! XO

Miss JoAnna (Reno GLEE): Congrats to Carlee! She is a beautiful young dancer with a bright future ahead of her. This girl eats, sleeps, and dreams dance. She is graceful, attentive, and dedicated. She's a joy to have in class!

Miss Andrea (Modern): Carlee is a hard-working, mature, positive, and beautiful individual! She has already progressed immensely in Modern and I know she will continue to. She has pushed herself beyond her “comfort zone” in my class, which is an important skill to have as an aspiring professional dancer. It is wonderful to have Carlee in class!

Mr. Marty (Jazz): Carlee is a great student; she is very focused, has a super attitude, takes corrections well and is disciplined. She is a natural dancer that is a true pleasure to have in class.

How long have you been dancing?
I've been dancing for about six years.
What dance classes do you take
I take many dance classes from jazz and tap to ballet.
What do you like best about dancing?
What I like best about dancing is I can feel the music and just dance!
What do you want to do when you grow up?
I'm torn between being a professional dancer and studying criminology when I grow up.

Miss Kia (Tap, previously Leaps and Turns): When Sarah first started dancing with us many years ago, it was obvious back then that she is a gifted dancer. She is always nice, friendly, works hard, takes corrections well, and does not give up until she gets it! As she is equally academically intelligent as she is talented in dance, I would not be surprised if she is the first professional dancer to become the Director of the CIA!

Miss Rachel (Tap, Leaps & Turns): Sarah is an outstanding dancer who works hard in every class. She is also a wonderful person and excellent example to the other dancers in the studio. She is humble and kind. I love teaching her tap, and leaps and turns. I also enjoy taking ballet with
her. Congratulations Sarah =))

Miss Mig (Quadruple Threat): Sarah is a shining example of a perfect student. She always shows up on time, dressed appropriately, with a good attitude, and a smile on her face. She is respectful and eager to learn. Not only is she beautiful, but she is diversely talented....a true "quadruple threat!"

Miss Ava (Jazz, Turns & Progressions): Sarah has so much natural ability as a dancer. She is committed, focused, and self motivated, but I enjoy her most in class because she is such a joy to work with. Her attitude and work ethic are key to her success, and I hope her love for dance continues to grow and inspire others around her.

Miss Jamie (ballet, pointe): Sara is one of the gifted students who has a strong drive to accomplish great improvements over short periods in time. She is a complete joy to have in class as she takes every correction seriously while maintaining respect and kindness to everyone in class. She never "rests on her laurels" ...good for you Sarah!

Miss JoAnna (Reno Glee): Congratulations to a student who we will be reading about for years to come. You can tell from the moment she enters the room that she is a dedicated dancer. She is eager to learn and
listens to the details. Always a joy!
